Latitudinal distribution of prokaryotes in the Red Sea

Details

This research is part of a wider project that involves many areas of the Red Sea Research Center and that is focused on elucidating the distribution patterns of different organisms in the Red Sea. Our group is centered on marine prokaryotes, which include Bacteria and Archaea. The main goal is to understand how the environmental gradients present in the Red Sea (salinity, temperature, chlorophyll, nutrients, dissolved organic matter) affect the different prokaryotic groups. In total, 3 cruises have been conducted (Winter 2017, Summer 2018 and Spring 2019) where we have collected prokaryotic abundances, DOC, FDOM, nutrients and prokaryotic diversity.
