Institut Mediterrani d’Estudis Avançats (IMEDEA), CSIC-UIB, Mallorca, Spain

Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies, IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB), a joint research institute between the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).

Instituto Andaluz de Ciencias de la Tierra (IACT), CSIC-UGR, Granada, Spain

The Andalusian Earth Sciences Institute (IACT) is a research center that belongs to the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the Univeristy of Granada (UGR). The Institute has more than 130 persons that conduct their research in pursuit of scientific excellence in Earth Sciences, in contributing to the development of cutting-edge tecnology, and in the transfer of knowledge to society. Research is conducted with a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, with a scientiic portofolio that has the following main tiers: the analysis of lithospheric processes that configure orogens and basins; geological, geophysical, geochemical and biogeochemical processes in marine environments; structure, composition and properties of minerals and rocks; and crystallographic problems ranging from macromolecular crystallography to pattern formation.

EPFL is Europe’s most cosmopolitan technical university with students, professors and staff from over 120 nations. A dynamic environment, open to Switzerland and the world, EPFL is centered on its three missions: teaching, research and technology transfer. EPFL works together with an extensive network of partners including other universities and institutes of technology, secondary schools and colleges, industry and economy, political circles and the general public, to bring about real impact for society.

The Australian Institute of Marine Sceince (AIMS), Townsville, Australia

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is Australia’s tropical marine research agency. We play a pivotal role in providing large-scale, long-term and world-class research that helps governments, industry and the wider community to make informed decisions about the management of Australia’s marine estate.

Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO), Centro Oceanográfico de Gijón/Xixón, Spain

The Spanish Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Science and Technology, was established in 1914 for the purpose of carrying out multidisciplinary oceanographic research on our seas and on specific aspects of other areas, as well as to counsel the State Administration and other Public Administrations. Research and counsel encompass marine biology, physical, chemical and geological oceanography, pollution of the marine environment and fishing aspects, as well as research and experience in aquaculture. The Instituto Espanol de Oceanografia maintain an Oceanographic Data Centre which was established in 1968, and is responsible for the compilation, storage and distribution of the data produced by the different research areas of the Institute. It acts as the Spanish representative at the international data exchange, and operates within the network of national oceanographic databases established by the IOC.

AZTI Tecnalia, Spain

At AZTI, we are a Technology Center where we develop sustainable products, services and business initiatives aimed at activating the industrial make-up while recovering and preserving natural resources. Transforming science into sustainable and healthy development for society today and in the future is our hallmark.

Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM)

The Institute belongs to the CSIC’s Natural Resources Area and is the largest marine research center in Spain and one of the most important in the Mediterranean region. It is entirely devoted to the study of oceans and seas. The Institute’s long experience and a team of over 200 specialists in different fields of oceanographic research (physics, chemistry, geology and biology) give the ICM a broad vision of the marine ecosystem, and the ability to assess changes and human impacts on the environment and seek appropriate solutions.

University Oslo, Department of Biosciences

The Department of Biosciences (IBV) was established January 1, 2013, following the merge of the Departments of Molecular Biosciences and Biology. The Department has five research sections (Aquatic Biology and Toxicology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology and Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolutionary Biology and Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis).

The Department's research focuses on understanding the fundamental biological processes from molecular and cellular level to population and ecosystem level.

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory seeks fundamental knowledge about the origin, evolution and future of the natural world. Its scientists study the planet from its deepest interior to the outer reaches of its atmosphere, on every continent and in every ocean, providing a rational basis for the difficult choices facing humanity.

University of Vienna, Departmente of Limnology and Bio-Oceanography, Vienna, Austria

The mission of the Department of Limnology and Bio-Oceanography is to gain and communicate scientific knowledge on the ecology of pelagic and benthic life in inland waters and marine ecosystems ranging from mountain streams to saline lakes and from coastal seas to the deep ocean including hydrothermal vents. The main goal is to understand the biodiversity and ecosystem functions, and the interactions of these with the physical and chemical environment. We combine concepts and theory from ecology, physiology and biogeochemistry with cutting-edge technology to achieve this endeavor. Organisms we study include viruses, microbes and metazoans and their interactions from the population to the ecosystem level. The Department of Limnology and Bio-Oceanography also facilitates and supports education in Biology and Environmental Science at the University of Vienna and at an international level.

University of Exeter

Biosciences at the University of Exeter. We are a rapidly expanding centre of internationally excellent research and education across the entire spectrum of the biological sciences. We provide a stimulating, inspirational and multidisciplinary environment that brings out the very best in our students and staff.
