Human pathogens in the ocean and the potential role of seagrasses

Details

Human pathogenic bacteria can reach coastal waters and travel long distances in the ocean. The purpose of this project is two-fold, first to assess the distribution of potential pathogens in global marine datasets obtained in the Tara Oceans and Malaspina circumnavigation projects, and second, to evaluate the potential role of Red Sea seagrass meadows in selectively removing human pathogens in shallow ecosystems. This project is a collaboration with Prof. Carlos M. Duarte.
